Among all the most famous is the UP5, an armchair with anatomical features and unmistakable anthropomorphic references. It has the shape of a large maternal womb and recalls the votive statues of prehistoric fertility goddesses (and for this reason it is also known as “Donna” or “Mama”).
“At the time I was telling a personal story about my concept of women who have been prisoners of themselves. I liked to give this armchair a woman’s shape with the ball and chain, which is also the traditional image of a prisoner.”
From 2000 the UP5 armchair was reissued by B&B Italia, accompanied by the UP6 ottoman as always, and in 2014 was produced in junior size, all under the name of Serie UP 2000, which included the seven original items of 1969.
UP Junior is a perfectly faithful replica of the original design, only smaller. Comfortable and playful, this designer seat features attractive shapes, to furnish and enhance kids’ areas and small city apartments.
To celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Gaetano Pesce’s UP5_6 there is also the 50th Anniversary Special Edition, striped beige/petrol green, which refers to the original color palette of 1969.
